Finding Balance and Flow: How Service-Based Entrepreneurs Can Thrive
It’s been a big year, and I know many business owners and entrepreneurs are looking for more balance and flow in life and business. If you're ready to do things differently, to move through your days with more ease, to let go of the constant rush and find a sense of calm amidst the demands of entrepreneurship, there’s something I’d like to share with you.
If you are constantly seeking, pushing forward and striving hard for balance, this type of action can actually have the opposite effect. The constant pursuit can create more stress and pressure and ultimately repel the very thing you’re trying to create.
If you’re in this space, I invite you to pause because there is another way.
Instead of chasing the idea of perfect balance, I invite you to think about creating balance during the season you’re in.
The truth is work-life balance doesn’t exist. Perfection doesn’t exist. There will never be a moment when everything feels perfectly balanced because life and business happen. There will be times when your business needs more of your energy and times when your family or personal life calls for more attention. Balance isn’t about having it all perfectly figured out. I believe you can find balance and flow during the season you are in.
Finding balance and flow is a daily practice that requires you to be intentional and strategic. It won’t fall into your lap one day because you finally figured it out.
Below are a few ideas for you to reflect on as we head towards the end of the year.
Understand your values
It’s important to get clear on what truly matters to you and to understand what drives you. Take a moment to review your values and sit with them. Do your values still fit, or have they evolved? Once you are clear on your values, focus on making life and business decisions that are aligned to those values. Be willing to get curious, dig deep and recognise how you’re showing up in your life and business. Are there things in your life or business that aren’t aligned to your values that you can let go of or do differently to help you create more space?
Prioritise your what matters
Finding balance and flow requires you to prioritise and you must be at the top of the list. You are the heart of everything in your life and business, and this is why you must nurture the relationship you have with yourself. If you don’t prioritise yourself and look after yourself, you will feel it, and others will too.
Understanding your values will help you prioritise so you can show up with authenticity, clarity, energy and focus.
Create boundaries
Now that you know what matters most, you’ll need structure. Be intentional with your commitments. Set boundaries that protect your energy, your time and your peace. This isn’t about rigidity. It’s about creating space for what matters most in the season you’re in.
Focus on energy management
Most people focus on managing their time, blocking hours, scheduling tasks, optimising productivity. However, I believe energy management is just as important, if not more important than time management.
Energy management isn’t just about what time of day you do your best work. It’s also about how and where you invest your energy, how you feel and whether or not you’re in alignment.
Choose to do life differently
If you’ve been living in a cycle of constant striving and pushing forward, I want you to know you can create change. You can choose to move differently, to live and work with more flow and alignment. It starts by taking small, manageable steps.
Work-life balance, as a fixed ideal, doesn’t exist but finding balance and flow during the season you are in now, is possible for you.
If you’re ready to find more balance and flow in your life and business and you’d like to move through your days with more stillness and alignment, I’d love to support you.
